The opposition leader of the Kolonnawa Urban Council Chandrasiri Dias had passed away suddenly while taking part in a meeting.

A spokesperson of the Colombo National Hospital stated that the 68 year old urban councillor had already passed away by the time he was brought to the hospital.

He was introduced into politics in the year 1979 by the late former minister Weerasinghe Mallimarachchi and during his 33 year old political career Chandrasiri Dias had acted as the chairman of the Kolonnawa urban council for 15 years.

Chadrasiri Dias, who was the chairman of the urban council, became the opposition leader, after the UPFA under the leadership of MP R. Duminda Silva won the Kolonnawa Urban council after 33 years.
