Train commuters were faced with great inconvenience due to the token strike executed by the railway trade unions.

The railway control room informed that only 18 were completed from the usual 320 train journeys that were scheduled.

During the course of day, 40 more journeys are expected to be completed.

The Chairman of Stationmasters Union K. V. Jayasena stated that the trade union action is successfully carried out.

He emphasised that if the responsible parties do not resolve the salary issue soon, they will be forced to take strict trade union action.

Our news team inquired about this matter from Superintendent of the Railway Transport Authority L.A.R. Rathnayake.

Subject minister Kumara Welgama stated that this action taken by the Railway Trade Union is not fair.
