The third reading of the 2013 budget was approved in parliament yesterday along with amendments with a majority of 101 votes.
158 votes were cast in favour of the 2013 budget while 57 votes were cast against.
The UNP, DNA and TNA voted against the budget.
The Supreme Court on an earlier occasion ruled that certain amendments regarding the 2013 budget should be executed.
Accordingly Leader of the House Minister Nimal Siripala De Silva presented two amendments before the house.
While the opposition expressed its dissent against these proposals the speaker took measures to present the Attorney Generals recommendations before the house in this regard.
Moreover the speaker noted that the budget could be approved through a special majority.
Thereby 2 separate votes were cast regarding these budget amendments.
The initial amendment was passed with a majority of 101 votes while the second was passed with a majority of 100 votes.
The heads of expenditure for the ministry of finance and planning was taken up yesterday.
Minister Ranjith Siyambalapitiya speaking during the debates explained the role of the opposition.
Meanwhile, UNP MP Dr. Harsha De Silva also expressed his views.
