The Bureau of Foreign Employment states that the number of Sri Lankan men leaving the country in search of foreign employment has far outnumbered women leaving the country in search of similar interest.

Chairman of the Bureau Amal Senadhilankara expressing his views to our news team noted that at present the number of Sri Lankan males leaving the country in search of foreign employment stood at 52%.

A total of around 1.7 million Sri Lankan expatriate workers serve at various countries around the world, while around 200,000 persons annually join this number as fresh expatriate workers leaving the country in search of foreign employment.

Most of these foreign workers serve based in the Middle Eastern region, while expatriate workers continue to provide the country with the highest amount of foreign currency.
