A stock of school text books were taken into police custody yesterday from a house located in Dikwella.
The consignment which had included both used & brand new school text books had been under the custody of the Dikwella Central College and had been sold over to manufacture paper bags.
A group of children receiving education at the Dikwella Central College who alerted our news team regarding the sale of school text books at the college expressed the following views to our news team.
When inquired from the principal of the Dikwella Central College M.L.D Jayadewa he stated that this was an attempt to tarnish the reputation of the school.
Although our news team attempted to obtain a statement from him in this regard, the request was declined.
When inquired by Deputy Minister of Education Vijith Vijayamuni De Soysa he noted that an inquiry would be launched into the incident.
Meanwhile an individual engaged in manufacturing paper bags has been placed under arrest by police.
The individual had been placed under arrest by police while he had been transporting some of the books in a three-wheeler.
Subsequent interrogations by police had led to the discovery of the rest of the books which had been stashed at the suspect's home.
