Lion Air excavations reach second day with no trace on remains

Police Media Spokesperson SSP Prishantha Jayakodi stated that excavations are conducted in 3 places in Punarin in Kadarimune in search of the remains of the Lion Air passengers.

The SSP stated to our news team that no recoveries were made from the excavation activities conducted yesterday.

The Lion Air plane disappeared on September 28th 1998 while flying from Palali to Ratmalana.

The information about the plane was revealed by an LTTE cader who was arrested and handed over to Terrorist Investigations Department, by the army on June 13th 2011.

Accordingly, the army managed to find the parts of the missing plane that was destroyed by a missile attack about 4 miles away from Iranathiv island in Mannar.

At the time of its disappearance, 48 passengers and 7 crew members were on board.
