Area residents from several parts of Ampara expressing their views to our news team noted that earth tremors were experienced in several parts of the district this morning.
The area's in which the tremors were experienced include Dewalahinda, Galkanda, Pallam-oya, Kiyulegama & Wadinagala.
According to the Grama Sewa Officer of Wadinagala these tremors were experienced between 9 & 10 this morning.
Similar tremors were experienced during the course of last week as well in the areas of Dewalahinda, Pallangala & Damana.
Subsequently a team from the Geological Survey & Mines Bureau were dispatched to the sites of the tremors & special seismic instruments were established.
According to Geophysicist Mahinda Senevirathna preliminary investigations have revealed that these tremors were induced due to human activities.
When inquired from the District Secretariat of Amapara, Neil Alwis regarding the large scale constructions taking place in the district & their impact, he stated that no explosives were being utilised at these sites.
However Director General of the Geological Survey & Mines Bureau Anil Peiris further investigations regarding these tremors are currently underway.
