After a 3 month long struggle, subsequent to the verdict issued by the Colombo – Fort magistrate on the 6th, the Colpetty Cobra dancer managed to regain custody of the Cobra.
Nirosha Wimalarathne alias Dilani is a dancer in a night club located in Colpetty.
On August 28th she was taken in to custody after being caught with a Cobra in her possession which was deemed to be dangerous for others.
The suspect was remanded and the cobra was handed over to the Dehiwala zoo.
After being bailed out, the suspect appealed to the Supreme court requesting to regain the custody of the cobra by filing a fundamental rights petition.
However, the order to hand over the cobra back to the owner was issued after examining the case at the Fort Magistrate’s court.
While collecting the cobra from the Dehiwala Zoo, Nirosha Wimalarathne had a conversation with our news team.
Nirosha Wimalarathne alias Dilani is a resident of Omansala in Danthure, Kandy.
Her mother is of Indian descent while her father is an Iranian national.
Dilani was born in India. She had migrated to Sri Lanka when she was 11 years of age and grew up with her grandmother in Omansala, Danthure.
A press release issued by Dilani stated that her mother, who is currently residing abroad, also has Cobras as pets.
