The president's announcement which was made yesterday stating that an independent committee would be appointed to investigate the parliamentary select committee's report on the chief justice has been met with several responses.
Expressing his views yesterday President Rajapaksa added that he was prepared to appoint an independent committee in this regard.
Meanwhile UNP MP Thissa Aththanayeke speaking yesterday expressed his pleasure regarding the president's proposal.
However JVP parliamentarian Anura Dissanayeke opposed the president's decision regarding an independent committee.
As opposed to this background President of the Bar Association, President's Council Wijedasa Rajapaksa noted that the president's proposal had provided attorneys with a new glimmer of hope.
