Attorney's island wide expressing their dissent against the Parliamentary Select

Committee's verdict concerning Chief Justice Dr. Shirani Bandaranaike, refrained from their duties for an hour this morning.

According to the Bar Association, around 14000 attorneys representing around 80 lawyer's association island wide had refrained from their duties from 10 to 11 am this morning.

According to our court correspondents attorneys during this hour had refrained from court activities.

Moreover attributed to the strike a considerable number of court cases had not been taken up for arbitration.

Meanwhile Attorneys serving at the Galle District as well as Magistrates courts

are currently refraining from their duties while a demonstration was observed before the Supreme Court in Colombo earlier this morning.

President of the Bar Association President's Counsel Wijedasa Rajapaksa expressed the following views to our news team.

Moreover in similar developments a similar demonstration was observed before the Balapitiya courts complex, while another demonstration in favour of the impeachment motion was observed near by.

The demonstration in this regard was headed by several Pradeshiya Sabha members who represented the Balapitiya Pradeshiya Sabha.

Anil Priyantha a Government Party representative of the Balapitiya Pradeshiya Sabha expressed the following views to our news team.

Meanwhile 7 petitions filed before the Supreme Courts calling for a legal interpretation which translates the mechanics of the impeachment motion are due to be taken up tomorrow when court convenes.

Furthermore two petitions were filed against Justice Nimal Gamini Amarthunga yesterday citing that he did not qualify to preside over the petitions which were filed earlier.

The petitions which have been submitted by a member of the clergy & a member of the Mahara Pradeshiya Sabha quotes Justice Nimal Gamini Amarthuga's presence over the filed petitions as inappropriate, since he is a current office bearer of the Judicial Services Commission.
