Four brothers were sentenced to death by the Kegalle High Court for the murder of a police sergeant who raided an illicit alcohol racket in 2008.
The police officer was said to have raided an illicit alcohol production site and the four suspects were convicted of beating the police sergeant with poles which led to his death.
The victim, Sergeant Sunil Walpitagamage was attached to the Kegalle police.
He was a resident of Kegalle Dewalagama area.
Meanwhile, the Kegalle High Court sentenced a former female carder of the LTTE hailing from the Jaffna Chinnaweli region who attempted to assassinate Minister Keheliya Rambukwella to 20 years in prison today.
She was arrested by the police in 2008 while attempting to assassinate Minister Rambukwella who was staying in a hotel in the Kegalle region.
