Deputy Minister of Local Government and Provincial Councils Indika Bandaranaike states that the government has appointed national and district level committees to demarcate the electorates required for local government councils.
The newly demarcated electorates will be used during the next local government election which is to be held as a mix of the first-past-the-post and the proportional systems.
The government has appointed 25 district committees to demarcate the borders of electoral areas of the local government councils of the relevant districts.
The district committees are assigned to make divisions, demarcate borders, name the councils and to consult the public.
The Public are invited for consultations in this regard until the 31st of January next year.
