A tense situation arose today during the Annual General Meeting of the Bar Association.
This was subsequent attorneys not being permitted to express their views concerning three proposals which were presented during the occassion.
Around 3000 members were in attendance for the Annual General Meeting of the Bar Association.
Proceedings of the annual general meeting were observed at the High Court premises in Colombo today under the aegis of Chairman of the Bar Association Presidet's Council Wijedasa Rajapaksa.
During the occasion 3 proposals concerning the impeachment filed against the Chief justice were presented.
According to the attorneys were permitted to express their opinions in this regard.

Subsequent to the ensuing furore between two factions of attorneys, views were expressed to our news team in the following manner by its participants.
However during a media briefing which was held subsequently, Chairman of the Bar Association Presidents Council Wijedasa Rajapaksa noted that 3 proposals had been approved by its members.
Meanwhile Deputy Chairwoman of the Bar Association noted that she would resign from her post, in a gesture of dissent against the manner in which the
proposals were seconded.
