7 districts have been affected due to the prevalent inclement weather.
According to the Deputy Director of the Disaster Management Centre Pradeep Kodippli 6 deaths are being reported due to the inclement weather while more than 1300 persons belonging to 309 families have been displaced.
According to Matale District Disaster Management Coordinator Chaminda Amaraweera all of the deaths are being reported from the district it's self.
Meanwhile Polonnaruwa-Batticaloa route has been inundated due to the inclement weather, bringing vehicular traffic along the route to a standstill.
The National Building Research Institute has requested for the closure of the Kandy-Mahiyanganaya main route even during days of dry weather especially due to its hazardous nature.
Moreover train services along the Northern railway line have been limited to Kurunegala due to the inundation of the railway track between Wellawa & Kurunegala.
In further developments the sluice gates of 14 reservoirs coming under the purview of the Department of Irrigation have opened.
The Department of Meteorology however states that heavy showers may be experienced in most parts of the island tonight as well.
