8 districts have been affected due to the prevalent inclement weather.

According to the Deputy Director of the Disaster Management Centre Pradeep Kodippli 11 deaths are being reported due to the inclement weather while more than 4917 persons belonging to 1219 families have been displaced.

Speaking further Deputy Director of the Disaster Management Centre Pradeep Kodippli had this to say….

The Disaster Management Centre said several areas in Ampara, Batticaloa, Kurunegala, Polonnaruwa and Hambantota Districts inundated due to the prevailing inclement weather.


The DMC also issued land slide warning to Nuwara Eliya, Matale, Badulla and Kandy Districts.

The National Building Research Organization stated that Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Badulla and Matale districts will be at risk of disaster situations such as landslides and rock falls, if showers continue for the next 24 hours.

Head of the Land slide unit of the Building and research department R M S Bandra cautioned the public to be extremely cautious.
