Deputy Speaker Chandima Weerakkody stated that a question of privilege could arise with regard to the letter forwarded by Neelakandan and Neelakandan Associates who appeared on behalf of the Chief Justice during the impeachment procedure.

The Deputy Speaker expressed these views at a media briefing that was held at the Parliamentary Complex today.

The Parliamentary Select Committee handed over its report on the impeachment against the Chief Justice on the 8th of December.

The Deputy Speaker of Parliament stated that along with that, the impeachment proceedings at the Parliamentary Select Committee came to an end.

However, Neelakandan and Neelakandan Associates forwarded a letter to the Speaker on the 14th regarding their concerns on certain members of the PSC.

The Deputy Speaker stated that since there was no such PSC in effect on the 14th, members of the PSC could raise a question of privilege.
