Operating Superintendent of the Railways Department Wijaya Samarasinghe states that railway activities along the Northern & Udarata tracks have restored back to normalcy, which were earlier disrupted due to the collapse of rocks and earth embankments.
According to Samarasinghe activity on all railway tracks have been restored except for that on the Polonnaruwa-Batticaloa track.
After almost 40 years, Chilaw town was flooded due to heavy rains.
Deputy Chairman of Chilaw Urban Council Susantha Sanjaya stated that Chilaw lagoon is overflowing and Munneshwaram river embankment had collapsed flooding the Munneshwaram Bhadra Kali Kovil.
Former Chairman of Chilaw Urban Council Suwini Perera stated that a similar flood was experienced in the year 1967.
