Notice was issued to members of the Parliamentary Select Committee which investigated the impeachment motion against Chief justice Dr. Shirani Bandaranaike to appear before court on the 03rd of January.
The following decision was issued today when the petition filed by the Chief Justice challenging the findings of the PSC was taken up before court today.
Moreover Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa & the General Secretary of Parliament have been ordered to appear before court on set date.
The petition was taken up before a trail at bar comprising of Appeal's court judges S. Skandaraja, Anil Gunarathna & A.W.A. Salaam.
If the PSC 's report is endorsed by parliament when it reconvenes on the 8th of January next year or the day following, the Chief Justice will have no choice but to vacate her office, according to President's Council Romesh De Silva.
Notice meanwhile has been issued to members of the PSC as well as the speaker to be present before court on the 03rd of January.
However on the 29th of November Leader of the House Minister Nimal Siripala De Silva raised a privilege question in parliament regarding the PSC & court serving notice against the members of the PSC.
During this juncture Speaker of Parliament Chamal Rajapaksa made the following observations.
