The Disaster Management Centre states that 30 persons have been killed due to the inclement weather which continues to affect 18 districts in the island.
Moreover 22 persons are reported to have sustained injuries while another 11 are reported missing.
A total of 87,641 individuals have been distressed due to the prevalent weather, while 48,883 persons out of this lot continue to be housed at welfare camps.
Deputy Media Director for the Disaster Management Centre expressing his views to our news team noted that 2,054 homes had been destroyed in the aftermath.
Meanwhile the sluice gates of the Parakrama Samudraya in the Polonnaruwa District have been opened by two feet, owing to which the water levels of the Mahaweli river has arisen.
Hence traffic along the Polonnaruwa-Batticaloa route has been hampered according to our correspondent.
According to the Department of Irrigation the sluice gates of 16 reservoirs have been released at present.
