The National Centre for Disaster Management states that 39 deaths have been reported due to the inclement weather being experienced at present.
Deputy Media Director of the centre Sarath Lal Kumara expressing his views to our news team noted that a total of 18 districts were affected as a result.
Meanwhile Irrigation Engineer of the of Kanthale M.L.M Buddhika states that concurrent to the heavy showers being experienced in the area, the 10 sluice gates of the Kanthale reservoir have been released by 3 feet each.
Moreover 8 sluice gates of the Parakrama Samudraya have been released by 6 feet.
Owing to this traffic plying along the Polonnaruwa-Batticaloa route in the Gallella area have been severely hampered.
