It is being reported that Leftist parties constituting the United People's Freedom Alliance government have requested President Mahinda Rajapaksa to adjourn parliament in a bid to quell the standoff between the countries' constitution & judiciary.

The request according to informed sources has been tendered in by Leader of the Samasamaja Party Minister Professor Thissa Witharana, Leader of the Communist Party Minister Dew Gunasekara & Leader of the Democratic Leftist Front Minister Wasudewa Nanayakkara.

The group is of the view that adjournment of parliament would aid both sides to take stock of the existing situation which would provide a platform to re-evaluate their options.

Deputy Secretary of the Democratic Leftist Front G D Thilakasiri expressed these views.
