Voting on budget proposals at various local government institutions are currently underway.
Incidentally the budget proposal of the Meerigama Pradeshiya Sabha was defeated for a second occasion today by 7 votes.
Only 3 votes were cast in favour of the budget proposal, which were the votes of the Chairman of the pradeshiya sabha & 3 other councillors.
It is reported that 9 UNP councillors as well a JVP councillor had voted against the budget proposal while 6 out of the 9 ruling party councillors had observed a code of silence when votes were being cast.

Opposition Leader of the Meerigama Pradeshiya Sabha M.A. Piyathilleke also expressed these views regarding the defeat of the budget proposal.
