The Disaster Management Centre stated that the disaster situation that had affected certain regions of the country is gradually subsiding.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Public Administration and home affairs has taken steps to empower district secretaries to cancel leave of government servants in disaster stricken areas.
This was considering the plight of those affected by the inclement weather conditions.
Meanwhile, Disaster Management Minister Mahinda Amaraweera stated that the assistance of District Secretaries and Divisional Secretaries can be obtained to provide relief to those affected by the inclement weather.
The Minister expressed these views whilst inspecting relief camps in Hambatota yesterday.
Meanwhile, Secretary to the Ministry of Health Dr. Nihal Jayasinghe stated that all arrangements have been made to safeguard the public residing in disaster striken areas from contracting any deceases.
He also requested the public to be cautious when sourcing drinking water.
