Commemoration of the National Safety Day, which is being held concurrent to the 2004 tsunami tragedy, got underway at the auditorium of the Badulla-Uwa province library, with the participation of Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa & several

other dignitaries.

Two minutes silence was observed from 9.25 to 9.27 am, in memory of those who had perished during the 2004 disaster which claimed the lives of almost 45,000 persons.

Meanwhile the Department of Railways deployed a special train service from Colombo Fort to Paraliya this morning, during which blessings & merits were transferred on the deceased, through the observation of various religious rights.

These are the views expressed by Operating Superintendent of the Railways' Department Wijaya Samarasinghe in this regard.
