Due to the heavy rainfall across the country, water levels of several tanks have increased.

Department of irrigation stated that sluice gates of Parakrama Samudraya, Minneriya and Kawudulla tanks in Polonnaruwa district and Hurulu Wewa in Anuradhapura district and several tanks in Northen province have been opened.

Director of the Water Management Unit of the Irrigation Department, Janaki Meegasthanna advised the residents of Mannar, Anuradha[ura pooja nagaraya, Horowpathana, Kahatagasdigiliya, Gal-lalla, manampitiya to be vigilant about the tanks.

Deputy Director of Disaster Management Centre Pradeep Kodipillai speaking to our news team stated that roads in the North, North Central and several other areas are flooded at the moment.

Meanwhile Duty Meteorologist Pabodini Karunapala stated that showers will continue for the next 24 hours.
