142 million spent on disaster relief; a further 50 million required says Minister of Disaster Relief

The Centre for Disaster Management states that 40 deaths have been reported due to the recent disaster situations experienced in the island.

The CDM states that 20 individuals have been injured, while another 7 have been pronounced missing.

A total of 30,763 individuals have been placed at 244 welfare camps, while 4191 homes have been completely destroyed.

Meanwhile Minister of Disaster Management Mahinda Amaraweera states that 142 million rupees have been allocated by the government in order to provide relief to those distressed.

However Minister Amaraweera highlighted the need for a further 50 million rupees, which is in deficit.

Moreover according to the Director of the Water Management Unit of the Department of Irrigation Janaki Meegasthnne, the sluice gates of 20 reservoirs continue to overflow upon having reached spill level.
