The Ministry of Disaster Management states that District Secretaries have been instructed to provide alternate lands for those whose houses were destroyed due to the recent disaster situation.
The Ministry points out that a majority of houses that were completely destroyed or partially damaged were located in disaster prone areas.
Minister Mahinda Amaraweera also stated that in case damaged houses can be reconstructed at the same location compensation will be provided to them.
Meanwhile, 110 families that were displaced following landslides in the Matale district have been resettled following reports received from the Geological Survey and Mines Bureau.
Matale Divisional Secretary Helan Meegasmulla stated that the remaining displaced persons will be resettled after reviewing the next report that would be issued by the Bureau.
However, the MET Department stated that showers will see a decrease during the next few days.
