Senior lecturer of the University of Kelaniya on Microbiology Professor D.L. Jayarathna states that the recently experienced yellow & green rains are yet another phase of the red rain phenomena.

According to Professor Jayarathana the pigmentation is being caused due to the Trentafolia algae present in rain water.

However Astro-biologist Professor Chandra Wickremesinghe of the Buckingham University in the UK was of the view that extra terrestrial influences may have induced the pigmentation in the coloured rains.

These remarks have been dismissed by professor Jayarathana who rules out such extraneous influences.
