The People's Movement for Democracy, an affiliate of the JVP had organised a programme in Matara today, during which signatures were obtained for a petition which counters the recent impeachment motion which was filed against Chief Justice Dr. Shirani Bandaranaike.
Moreover in Colombo today the government had called in a media briefing to clarify its stance regarding the impeachment motion.
Deputy Minister Lakshman Yapa Abeywardhana speaking here noted that during the impeachment motion parliament was the supreme institute.
However General Secretary of the JVP Tilvin Silva noted that his party would counter any movement by the government regarding the impeachment motion.
Western Provincial Councillor Udaya Gammampila too expressed his views during the media briefing.
Against this backdrop the General Secretary of the JVP noted that it did not share the government's stance regarding courts verdict.
Meanwhile Minister Susil Premajayantha expressing his views in this regard noted that irrelevant of the magnitude or frequency of investigations, 3 charges which were held against Chief Justice Dr. Shirani Bandaranaike had been proven.
