Analysis carried out on rock fragments

The Geological Unit of the University of Peradeniya states that analysis are being carried out on rock fragments which are believed to be parts of meteorites, which were recently discovered from several parts of the island.


Vice Chancellor of the University Professor Athula Senarathna expressing his views to our news team noted that the analysis would be conducted expediently.


Information concerning meteorites was received from the areas of Dimbulagala & Aralaganwila recently.


Moreover in a latest revelation our news team learned that several fragments of rock bearing the characteristics of a meteorite were recovered from a paddy field adjacent to School Lane in Giranduru Kotte this morning.


At present analysis at the University of Peradeniya are being carried out on meteor like fragments recovered from the Aralaganwila area.


Geologist Athula Senrathna expressing his views to our news team made the following observations regarding the progress obtained in analysis.
