Risk of dengue & rat fever spreading

The Epidemiology Unit says that there is an imminent risk of dengue & rat fever spreading throughout several parts of the island concurrent to the inclement weather being experienced.

According to the Director of the Epidemiology Unit Dr. Paba Palihawadana districts which risk contamination include Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa, Matale & Kandy.

During the course of 2012 43, 680 dengue patients were reported along side 228 mortalities.

Moreover 2600 patients who had contracted rat fever were reported during 2012 along with 46 deaths.
