Kiriella warns of losing parliamentary seats due to impeachment

Wimal Weerawansa states that once the impeachment process against the Chief Justice concludes, every magistrate who ruled against parliament should be called over to parliament.


Minister Weerawansa made this statement during a media briefing held in Colombo today.




Meanwhile Parliamentarian Lakshman Kiriella states that since the Supreme Court has already issued an interpretation regarding the impeachment process which is in accordance with the constitution, it is the collective responsibility of all parties to accept that decision.


Speaking further Kiriella noted that since MP's had pledged to safeguard the constitution, they should refrain from expressing views against the Supreme Court & its rulings.




Meanwhile United National Party Southern Provincial Councillor Maithree Gunarathna in a letter forwarded to Supreme Court magistrates has urged them to initiate prosecution against Minister Wimal Weerawansa for having made a controversial statement to the media concerning the parliamentary select committee, which had probed the impeachment motion which was filed against the Chief Justice.
