The petition the Chief Justice had filed against the report of the PSC on impeachment will be taken up for hearing at the appeal court today.

This petition will be taken up for hearing before the three-member bench of judges Appeal Court Chairman Sri Skandaraaja, Anil Gunaratne and A. W. A. Salaam.

When this petition was called on 3rd instant two interim petitions had been submitted requesting that opportunity be granted for intervening in the petition of the Chief Justice.

While the Appeal Court decided to reject the said two petitions, the three-member bench of judges said that an intervention by a separate party was not required as an intervention of the Attorney General would be taking place.

Accordingly the Attorney General has been noticed to appear at the appeal court for giving evidence before court today.

Meanwhile a special party leaders' meeting has been called today with Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa at the chair.

Parliament sources said that this meeting to be held at 11.30 a.m. at hall 1 was likely to be a highly tense one.

However a decision is scheduled to be taken at this meeting with regard to the number of days the impeachment debate would be held.

Meanwhile Southern Province Chief Minister Shaan Wijelaal de Silva says that persons who formulate the laws of a country and the persons who implement the law should act according to the country's common approved law.

The Chief Minister said so while participating at a people's rally held in Matara yesterday.
