Parliamentary debate on impeachment to be held on the 10th & 11th of this month

Leaders of political parties who gathered at the parliamentary complex this morning have decided to host the parliamentary debate on the impeachment of the Chief Justice on the 10th & 11th of this month.


The ballot in this regard has been scheduled for the 11th of this month at 6.30 pm.


Deputy Speaker Chandima Weerakkodi made the following clarifications regarding the party leaders meeting which was held at the parliamentary complex this morning under the aegis of Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa.




While the party leaders meeting was in session this morning, it is reported that several MP's representing the opposition had walked out from the premises in an expression of dissent.


Those who had walked out include JVP MP Anura Kumara Dissanayeke, TNA parliamentarian Suresh Premachandran & UNP MP Lakshman Kiriella.

Meanwhile during a media briefing convened by the Sri Lanka Freedom Party

in Colombo this afternoon, Party General Secretary Minister Maithreepala Sirisena denied the fact that certain opposition MP's had walked out during the party leaders meeting.


In fact he noted that they had walked out subsequent to the conclusion of the party leaders meeting.
