The Appeal Court issued a writ injunction abolishing the report of the PSC on impeachment against the Chief Justice yesterday.

 

Different sections hold varying opinions with regard to the issue of this writ injunction.

 

Deputy Speaker Chandima Weerakkody says that a third party cannot exert pressure for reversing an action included in the parliament agenda.

 

The Deputy Speaker said that as per already fixed dates the impeachment report would be taken for debate on 10th and 11th of this month.

Expressing his views to media after the Appeal Court had given its verdict on the petition the Chief Justice had filed challenging the impeachment report, President's Councel Saaliya Peiris said that he believed that parliament would act honouring the court verdict.

While Attorney General too led evidence before the Appeal Court with regard to this petition yesterday, expressing his views to media after the court verdict was given, Attorney at Law B. Maanawadu said that this verdict was not an impediment for PSC representatives to carry on with their duties.

Deputy Minister Lalith Dissanayake says that the verdict given by Court with regard to the PSC report on impeachment will not be accepted.
