Divi Neguma Bill to be taken up for debate today; JVP and TNA oppose the bill.

The Government is getting ready to pass the Draft Act for setting up the Divineguma department today by a two-third's majority.


While the Government has accepted 10 out of the 12 amendments of the draft Divineguma Act as per the Supreme Court verdict, these amendments are scheduled to be made at the committee debate stage.


The Government has made arrangements to have the remaining two amendments passed in parliament by a two-third's majority.


Deputy Speaker Chandima Weerakkody elaborating on the subject had this to say :




However the JVP and the TNA has even now decided to vote against the draft Divineguma Act.


TNA MP M. A. Sumandiran explaining about TNA's decision:




UNP MP Lakshman Kiriella told our news team that the UNP would participate in the committee stage debate of the draft Divineguma Act today.


Similarly while the Muslim Congress too held a special discussion with regard to voting on the draft Divineguma Act, no decision has yet been taken about it.


Meanwhile the All Island Smurddhi Development and Agriculture Research Products Assistant Officers' Union has organised an agitation at parliament round-about this noon.
