The funeral of Kelaniya UPFA Divisional Councillor Hasitha Madawala who was killed in a shooting incident, will take place at the general cemetery at Pilapitiya in Kelaniya today.

The councillor's remains are scheduled to be taken to the Kelaniya Divisional Council this forenoon for paying last respects.

Councillor Hasitha Madawala died due to the gun shot attack in front of his house last Saturday night.

The police apprehended yesterday five suspects along with firearms in connection with the killing.

However a group of Councillors including the Kelaniya Divisional Council Chairman had called a media briefing for briefing the media with regard to the subject.

Upon inquiry by our news team whether Minister Mervin Silva is connected to the murder, Police Media Spokesperson SSP Prishantha Jayakody gave the following response.

Meanwhile action has been taken for deploying special police security in Kelaniya today on which the funeral of Divisional Councillor Hasitha Madawala takes place.
