Parliament debate on impeachment report begins today - UNP and TNA to attend JVP to boycott

The debate regarding the impeachment report against Chief Justice Dr. Shirani Bandaranayaka begins today.

The UNP is stating that it will take part in the debate and use its vote against the report at the end of the debate.

Chief opposition whip John Amaratunga stated that while a request to not hold the debate was made at the party leader’s meeting yesterday, the government did not agree to the request.


JVP Parliamentarian Anura Kumara Dissanayaka stated that the JVP is not taking part in the debate as it does not want to be the caretaker of the government.


The TNA is stating that it will take part in the debate and use its votes against the report.

However, Deputy Speaker Chandima Weerakkody stated that the debate regarding the impeachment report will take place today.
