Government turns attention towards constitutional amendment; Obey the existing constitution - says UNP

A constitutional amendment is a topic that is being discussed on a regular basis in the Political arena.

Our news team spoke to deputy speaker Chandima Weerakkody to obtain the opinion of the government.

In response to our inquiries he stated that the constitution and the laws of the country should change with the time.

The opinion of the UNP regarding this was provided by UNP MP Lakshman Kiriella.

He stated that it is vital to safeguard the current constitution in a proper manner.


The JVP is stating that the executive presidency should be abolished and that a constitution that caters to the requirements of the people should be created.

Our news team spoke to JVP MP Anura Kumara Dissanayaka with regard to this and he gave the following response.


However, our news team inquired from Senior Attorney At Law Gomin Dayasri regarding the need for a new constitutional amendment.
