Quoted by Agence France Press it is reported that the UN's human rights office has stressed that the impeachment of Sri Lanka's chief justice Dr. Shirani Bandaranayake has further eroded the rule of law in the country,

According to the AFP the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillay remains "deeply concerned" by Dr. Bandaranayake's removal.

The Spokesperson of the UN Human Rights Chief Rupert Colvin had stated that the removal of Sri Lanka’s chief justice was through a flawed process which amounts to a gross interference in the independence of the judiciary.

However during a recently held session of the Cabinet Decicion Media Briefing Minister Susil Premajayantha noted that the government was adherent to the countries constitution.

However when inquired from UN Human Rights Chief Navi Pillai if she would tour the island she had mentioned that her stance regarding such a visit remained unachinged.
