It was reported that the ministry of national language and social integration has decided to recompose the national anthem with verses in both Sinhala and Tamil.

However, the JHU is vehemently protesting against this.

It has been proposed that the recomposed national anthem be sung at national events.

Minister Wasudewa Nanayakkara stated that either the Sinhala or Tamil version of the national anthem can be sung at non national events.

JHU Central provincial councillor Thushara Swarnathilaka expressed his protest against this while taking part in a adishtana pooja held at the sacred Temple of the Tooth Relic in Kandy.
