Another restriction on UNP members and organizers

Saturday, 26 January 2013 - 7:58

Parliamentarians, provincial councillors, local government ministers and organizers of the UNP have been instructed to stop public social programs with immediate effect.

Opposition leader Rani Wickramasinghe has issued the order based on the powers vested on the party leadership by the party constitution.

Therefore accordingly all distribution of goods through welfare associations and volunteer organizations will be prohibited.

The opposition leader has pointed out that since there are other associations and organizations for such activities, there is no need for UNP party members to establish such organizations.

Further more the opposition leader has stated that any UNP member who establishes and continues to operate such an organization would need to step down from their roles in the party to continue their volunteer activities.
