Forest Officers are due to engage in a strike commencing tomorrow against alleged harassments meted out on them by the police.

Secretary of the 'Wnana Handa' Organisation S.P.G. Lionel expressing his views to our news team noted that the Director General of Wildlife had been notified in this regard at noon today.

Meanwhile police on the 23rd of this month complained that two of its officers had been seized by forest officers when they had attempted a raid on a ganja field located deep within the Udawalawa National Reserve.

The two officers who were seized both attached to the Police Anti Corruption Unit in Walana were subsequently released.

However despite their release a special investigation in this regard has been launched by police.

Police Media Spokesperson SSP Prishantha Jayakodi expressing his views to our news team noted that if it was deduced that these forest officers had breached the law in any manner, the offenders guilty of having committed the crime would be brought to book.
