Two US senators renewed calls for an international investigation into potential war crimes in Sri Lanka, accusing Sri lanka of failing to address legitimate concerns.

Senators Patrick Leahy and Bob Casey, prominent voices on foreign policy in President Barack Obama's Democratic Party, said the island had failed to carry out recommendations from its own Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission.

The senators voiced concern over the recent impeachment as well.

The senators stated that Accountability is a necessary precursor to reconciliation and a stable democracy.

US officials announced on Monday in Colombo that the United States for the second straight year will bring a resolution before the UN Human Rights Council to pressure Sri Lanka over its record.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu and leader of the DMK, M. Karunanidhi states that India should not change the stance it took at the United Nations Human Rights Convention in Geneva.

The chief minister made this statement while taking part in a discussion with a local Tamil Nadu television station.

He had further stated that since Sri Lanka has not shown positive results since the UNHR convention, India should support the proposal against Sri Lanka that will be presented by the United States.

However, Minister of External Affair Proffesor G. L. Peiris stated that forces that are against the country are still active even after the conclusion of the war.

Speaking further the minister stated that the government has a practical plan to deal with the Human Rights challenges.
