Sakvithi who is charged with 2,014 cases sentenced to 2 years rigorous imprisonment

Sakvithi Ranasinghe who pleaded guilty to bigamy has been sentenced to two years of rigorous imprisonment and to pay a 25,000 rupee fine by the Colombo High Court today.

Abeyranasinghe Mudiyanselage Chandana Weerakumara alias Sakvithi Ranasinghe has been in remand custody for an extended period of time with regard to a number of financial fraud charges.

It was revealed in the hearing that he had first married Subhashini De Silva Ariyaratne on the 9th of March in 1998 and subsequently without annulling the marriage he had married Kumari Anurudhdhika on the 25th of March of 2005.

The attorney general had filed charges against Sakvithi Ranasinghe for re marrying without annulling the first marriage when his wife was alive.

The Colombo High Court Judge Wimal Nambuwasam who considered the facts presented sentenced Sakvithi Ranasinghe to two years of rigorous imprisonment.

Currently the Mirihana Police are investigating 2,014 charges of financial fraud amounting to 1.05 billion rupees against Sakvithi Ranasinghe who is currently in remand custody.
