University entrance issue solved; further 5609 gain university entrance

Thursday, 07 February 2013 - 19:31

The Proposal submitted by the University Grants Commission to avert a crunch when enrolling an additional 5609 students was approved by the Supreme Court Today.

Accordingly a high concentration of students would be absorbed into the university system from districts which possess a high pass rate.

This measure would in turn balance the discrepancy prevalent in districts which display a lower pass rate of students who have been successful in both the practical & fitness tests.

Moreover the University Grants Commission also informed the Supreme Court today that expedient measures would be taken to release the cut-off marks in this regard.

The petition in this regard today was considered before a three judge panel consisting of Chief Justice Mohan Peiris, K. Sri Pawan & Eva Wanasundara.
