The Ministry of Health stated that it has been decided to amend the Ordinance on Private Medical Institutes.

Accordingly the Ministry stated that a study is been carried out through an experts committee to ascertain the manner in which the amendments should be introduced.

This decision has been taken since the existing laws are insufficient when dealing with Private Medical Institutes that violate standard procedures.

Meanwhile, Health Secretary Dr. Nihal Jayathilaka says that clinics cannot be held without the permission of the Health Secretary.

He expressed these views in reply to an inquiry made by our news team regarding the incident reported from Weyangoda where residents of the area had opposed a mobile clinic in the area.

Residents alleged that birth control had been carried out at the clinic.

We inquired from Health Secretary Dr. Nihal Jayathilaka regarding this matter further.
