His eminence Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith among candidates for the position of Pope; says Forbes magazine.

The Forbes magazine said, With Pope Benedict the 16th resignation, Sri Lanka’s Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith is also among the front runners for head of the Catholic Church.


For the first time in 600 years, a pope is resigning after less than eight years in office.


Pope Benedict the 16th, made the surprise announcement that he would step down on February 28th, citing his advanced age.


Vatican spokesman Federico Lombardi, said a successor could be elected by Easter, which falls on March 31st.


Meanwhile National Catholic Mass Communication Director Reverend Father Benedict Joseph says that His Eminence Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith has the opportunity for voting in electing a new Pope.
