General Secretary of the Commonwealth Kamalesh Sharma issuing a release prior to his departure from the island today noted that the Island was well poised to host the 2013 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting which is due to be held later this year.

In his release Sharma had noted that the aim of his visit was to observe the benefits that Sri Lanka could gain through hosting CHOGAM.

Accordingly the Commonwealths attention has been directed at providing the country with the technical know-how to forward and develop sectors such as electoral, human rights, judiciary and freedom of media.

Equally the Commonwealth also hopes to assist Sri Lanka in achieving power equilibrium by implementing the recommendations of the Lessons Learnt & Recioncilliation Commission
