Funds provided by government for school maintenance not sufficient; accusation from teacher unions.

The Lanka Teacher Services Association charges that the funds the Government provides for school maintenance is not sufficient.

Associations general secretary Mahinda Jayasinghe said at a media briefing held in Colombo yesterday that the Government should immediately increase its expenditure on schools.


However Education Minister Bandula Gunawardhana said in Parliament recently that a new circular would soon be issued with regard to collecting funds in schools.


Expressing his views further on this occasion, the Lanka Teacher Services' Association general secretary stated as follows:
